I know many of you have wondered why The Boozy Weathergirl has not posted anything comical or otherwise about this Coronatastrophe. But I just can’t. And here’s why.
1
I have friends and acquaintances with severe anxiety issues. They’re not leaving the house, because they are gripped with fear about this. I don’t want to make light of this for them.
2
I work at a school with a large low-income population. I’m constantly worried about these kids and their families not having food. Or even worse, kids under 10 being left home alone each day, because their parents can’t afford to work from home and need their jobs just to hopefully make ends meet.
3
A lot of my friends own restaurants and small businesses. Who knows if they’ll all be able to stay open if this continues into the summer.
4
Many people, like myself, are hourly employees with no contracts. So that means when school is out, we don’t get paid. I can’t exactly look for something else to do yet. We might be back in school in two weeks or we might be out for the year. Who knows?!?
5
I know it’s not the end of the world, but kids, especially seniors, are missing out on several amazing rights of passage because of this. And I hate that for them.
6
Senior citizens, especially those living alone, are scared and may not be getting what they need.
I could go on and on. Think of this too though - if you’re an introvert, this quarantine might be great for you. However, if you’re a clinically extroverted person like me, this is a new kind of punishment. I crave human contact, and I can’t get it. I love planning social gatherings, and I can’t. So while I know why we’re doing this, and I support it, this sucks. And I can’t encourage you to drink alone, because I’m not in this to encourage alcoholism. I’m The Boozy Weathergirl so that we can all have fun - in groups, together!
On the bright side, I put on all my St. Patty’s day gear and went to Stop & Shop this morning. My green unicorn headband, courtesy of my awesome co-worker, Brittany, made a lot of people smile. They also had unicorn seltzer, which I purchased as a preferred mixer, and some Trolls Oreos with GLITTER! So, my day’s been pretty magical already.
Who knows what lies ahead? But when we are all safe and healthy and can have fun again, I promise this Boozy Weathergirl will be back with a vengeance. Until then, look out for each other and try to enjoy this break as best you can.
