Riding the gravy train of friendship

This week, I am becoming the cliche. I am hosting Friendsgiving. So, my Deep Thoughts Thursday with The Boozy Weathergirl will focus on why I think this is a great idea (not that I need to justify my desire to have a party.)

1

First and foremost, this party can be anywhere you want it to be, at any time you want it to be. No having to trek to Aunt Sally's moldy-smelling home halfway across the state by noon, with the uncomfortable chairs and the one working toilet for all 30 of you who are attending because, "it might be her last one."

2

Your friends bring the things you ask them to bring, without hesitation or argument, AND they actually help you with the party (especially the cleanup).

3

You can try out all the weird recipes you've been seeing on social media and not have to worry about ruining dinner. You want to see if that goat cheese sweet potato casserole is edible? Now's the time to try it. Quinoa salad instead of boring old greens? Quin-why not?

4

There is no pressure to dress up. If you want to dig out your old maternity clothes and eat until you have a food baby, so be it! If you want to wear a t-shirt that reads, "Let's Get Basted," go ahead! And you can pair it with pajama bottoms. Or dress like a pilgrim, because that is funny.

5

You have an excuse to watch at least 10 episodes of "Friends" leading up to the party, because that's just research. And what's a good party without some couch-potato prep? (Speaking of potatoes - now would be a good time to eat some. Just sayin'.)

6

If you plan it right, there's no drama. Let the guests mingle AND pick their own seats. There are no uncomfortable exchanges, because you're only inviting people to come who you WANT to see. And, hopefully, you'll be encouraging people to make new friends.

7

Along those same lines, this is an event you look forward to without an ounce of dread. This is the gathering where you can be you - speak unfiltered, drink endlessly, eat without judgement. It's glorious.

8

There are all kinds of games you can play. You've been watching Reels and Tik Toks with all these ridiculous socks-on-head, hands-behind-the-back, make-a-fool-of-you games, and you know no one in your family would ever get off the couch to play them. But you know who would? Your crazy-ass friends! Make this be the way every gathering should be - silly and FUN!

9

You can get rip-roaring drunk, and no one will judge you. In fact, these are the people who will encourage you to let loose and be the spaz they always knew you could be. So, get your drink on and shake your tail feathers, turkeys!

10

You get to be with the people your heart has chosen to be family. If you are like me, you are blessed with many of them. And although I can't have them all under one roof at one time, I know they're out there, and we will get to share a meal and a toast when the time is right.

As we head into the holiday season, stay cool. It can be a lot of fun, and it goes by way too quickly. If you really need an escape though, I suggest any of the treats in the link below. Because every party needs an obnoxious drunk, so why not have that drunk be you this year? I'm just hoping my Friendsgiving doesn't turn out to be MY intervention...

I'll be there for you
